Screen addiction degrades the school environment
Students walk between classes with their earbuds in and their faces in their screens. They stumble down stairwells. They walk into each other, into walls, into lockers, and soda machines. They enter the classroom with their eyes on their screens, unaware of their surroundings. During class they watch Netflix and YouTube, use social media, and play games. Some manage to use their phones to cheat on tests. When teachers intervene to address these behaviors they resist, become indignant, and sometimes hostile. When doing their homework they multi-task, continuously shifting from their assignments to text messages, music, social media, sports scores, and news.
