Purpose |
Screen Education's Digital Wellness Workshop for summer camps lays a foundation to help campers learn to self-limit their screen time. Built upon our model of smartphone addiction, the workshop raises campers' awareness of the problem, helps them see its impact in their own lives, and to create their own plan to address it.

Segment 1: Learn
First we teach campers about smartphone addiction --- why apps are addictive, how they cause compulsive screen use, and how this hurts them socially, cognitively, emotionally, and physically. |
|
Built on our research with camps & schools |
Our workshop is based upon research we have conducted on smartphone use with kids at Camp Kern, Camp Ernst, and Camp Livingston --- research we have presented at the 2017 and 2018 Ohio American Camp Association Conferences. It also is informed by research we have conducted with schools, and is structured around a model of smartphone addiction that we have developed and presented at the Ohio Educational Technology Conference, and the Wisconsin Educational Media & Technology Conference. Review our press release summary of our research with Camp Livingston, or the detailed report.
