Objective

The objective of the Digital Distraction at Work Brief Survey was to get a brief read on how much time employees are spending each day using their smartphones during the workday to consume digital
content that is unrelated to their job, and to see how widespread is the problem of digital distraction during meetings.

Survey Execution

Screen Education developed the Digital Distraction at Work Brief Survey questionnaire.

EMI Research Solutions then fielded the survey September 12-27, 2019, using its proprietary online survey platform.
EMI recruited participants via double-opt-in panel using EMI’s proprietary SWIFT (Sampling with Integrated Fingerprinting Technology) dashboard.

Stark Statistical Analysis provided analysis and cross-tabs, and Screen Education wrote this report.

Sample

The sample was comprised of 596 full-time U.S. employees and had a margin of error of + or - 3%.

Respondents worked in a broad spectrum of industries, and held positions that were self-classified as Executive, Manager/Supervisor, and All Other Positions.
The age of respondents ranged from 18 through 75 and over, and the gender composition was 45% male and 55% female.

The sample was balanced by race and geographic region, and 10% of respondents were Hispanic.

Amount of time respondents personally spend using phones for personal reasons during the workday.

Respondents estimate they personally spend 1.4 hours each workday using phones to access digital content that is unrelated to their jobs.
