The narratives presented by liberal and conservative news organizations typically are polarized --- each side says the opposite of the other. This places their audiences in opposite worlds, unable to discuss political issues.
This is destructive to society. Friends and family sever ties over political disagreements. Policymakers fail to find common ground. Employees bring their political disagreements to work. And corporate leaders take sides on polarized issues, alienating employees and customers. In this seminar we show how the media generate polarized news narratives, how this divides us, and how we can address the problem. We offer custom versions of the seminar for general, corporate, and school audiences. |

Working Around The News Media
To Find The Truth The mainstream news media has replaced journalistic principles with propaganda techniques. Rather than basing their news narratives upon facts, they make the facts fit their preferred news narrative. As a result, we can't blindly trust any news source --- we must work to ensure we are getting the actual facts on any given news story. This seminar takes an in-depth walk through numerous techniques the news media use to manipulate their audience's views on critical issues, using timely examples. It then explains how to get around these manipulations to determine the true facts on important news stories. Topics covered include the role fabrication, censorship, and smearing play in the news, the growth in independent and citizen journalists and the role they are playing, and how to change our news consumption habits to ensure we get to the truth. |
